Start of construction 630 Hemlock

Kudos to council.

The lot at 630 Hemlock is being cleared and construction appears to be starting on the project. Previously, there was a 1972 three bedroom house on a single large lot. The lot will be subdivided into three smaller lots. Each lot will have a three bedroom home with a detached garage. Each of the garages will have a one bedroom suite above the garage. Six new residences replacing the 1972 house. Conceivably, three families can move into the new houses with the suites above the garage providing rental income or use for extended family situations. Picture your aged parent living close by, but separate from you.

Kudos to Town staff and council. A zoning amendment and subdivision application was presented in January 2024. Despite initial concerns, council approved the rezoning and subdivision and adopted the bylaw on April 10, 2024. I can see a new doctor moving to Qualicum Beach, buying one of these homes for their family and renting the suite above the garage to a new nurse from Flowerstone Clinic.
