Congratulations and goodbye for now

We want to take a moment to thank those who put their hand up to run in our municipal election. Not only did they put considerable time and energy into their campaigns but many also funded the endeavor themselves.

The successful candidates are Adam Walker for Mayor and Mischa Oak, Don Couzens, Scott Harrison and Anne Skipsey for Councillor.

To them, we offer congratulations and remind them that their job is just beginning, with no shortage of initiatives that will need to be addressed in the short term. However, the job does not end there as, once the short term initiatives have been examined, debated and a path forward identified, they will need to consider long term goals for the future of Qualicum Beach. With both short term and long term planning, we encourage Mayor and Council to seek public engagement, debate the issues, make decisions in open meetings and provide full information about those decisions in a timely manner.

After following council meetings since January 2023 and writing over 100 articles, it is now time for Qualicum Beach Insights to say farewell. We will be taking a break to give the new Council the opportunity to do its job. We wish them all the best.

We also want to take this opportunity to thank our readers for all of their encouragement and comments over the past two years.
