The town has released their agenda for Wednesday Jan 8th Committee of the Whole Meeting which includes a presentation from the developer for the vacant land on the north east corner of Hoylake Road and Memorial. The proposal for 532 Memorial Avenue includes 20 hotel room units and a separate building with 60 residential units. The building is proposed at 5 stories plus one level of underground parking.
This is the first time the public is hearing that a zoning amendment and development permit application has been received by the town. We are advised that no public hearings are permitted, hence no questions or comments about the project will be entertained despite this being a committee of the whole type of meeting. Members of the public can however send their comments and questions at any point in time, directly to council via email qbcouncil@qualicumbeach.com .
Council will not be approving or declining the project at this meeting. The meeting is simply to hear a presentation from the developer. This is the time, however, to let your council know how you feel about the proposal. Your input is important, whether you agree or disagree with this form of densification.
This is a meeting that you might want to take the time for as your input now or after the presentation will help shape the look and feel of our town for many years to come.
